The Food Guide Pyramid is a general guide that lets you choose a healthful diet that's right for you.

The Pyramid calls for eating a variety of foods to get the nutrients you need and, at the same time, the right amount of calories to maintain a healthy weight. The Pyramid also focuses on fat because most people eat too much fat, especially saturated fat.

For a list of examples for each of the food groups (following the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Agriculture - USDA's website) and helpful tips on choosing from those groups, please click on the food group for which you would like an example.
