At NOHC and OMG we make a commitment to Partner for Your Health. That means, we are always looking for ways to improve our practices and interventions. We look into the outcomes of patient care as a good measurement for finding ways to improve.
Through a comparison with both national and state statistics we are able to see where we land among other top hospitals.
We've discovered that overall; we rank among the top hospitals in the nation in both treatment and patient care.
When it comes to giving proper discharge instructions and evaluation of systolic function, we rank at 92% and 99% respectively, compared to the national averages of 66% and 85%. We even out rank the state of Ohio's average at 78% and 92%.
Note that all of these percentages are based only on patients whose history and condition indicate the treatment is appropriate. For example, our Smoking Cessation Counseling ranked at 98% but of only 164 patients, because they were the only ones who needed it. The national and state averages for counseling on how to quit smoking yielded 86% and 92% respectively.
We ranked near top hospitals for discharge instructions, systolic function evaluation, ACE inhibitors and smoking cessation.
These are all extremely important because heart failure is a chronic disease and our nation's number one killer. Proper treatment depends on what area of your heart is infected. Also, smoking causes your blood vessels to thicken and can increase blood clotting, which can result in another heart attack.
