Quick Health Tip - How to Donate Blood

The requirements for donating blood include:

  • Identification: You must present photo identification before making your donation (example: driver’s license, student or employee ID).
  • Age: With authorized consent of a parent or guardian, you are eligible to donate blood at age 16. If you are over 65, they will evaluate your candidacy.
  • Weight: You must weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • How frequently can I donate blood?: Every eight weeks (or 56 days).
  • Hemoglobin: Must be greater than 12.5 gm/dl.*
  • Medications: If you are currently taking any medications, please bring them with you.
  • Blood pressure: No higher than 180 systolic and 100 diastolic.*

*This will be checked during the medical evaluation screening process.
