Spider Veins & Varicose Veins

OMG and NOHC Services - Sclerotherapy - Vein TreatmentWhat to Expect

Spider veins of the legs are a common problem that particularly affects women. Small purple, blue or red veins can form anywhere on the leg, from the top of the thigh to the ankle, remaining close to the surface of the skin. These veins appear as connected lines resembling a spider web pattern or as short, unconnected lines.

Several factors can cause spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy, weight, occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and certain medications. Varicose veins are different from spider veins. Varicose veins are larger, darker in color and tend to bulge. Varicose veins are usually painful and related to more serious venous disorders.

Today, because of modern technology, both spider veins and superficial varicose veins can be treated through a procedure called Sclerotherapy.

OMG and NOHC Services - Sclerotherapy - Vein TreatmentSclerotherapy is a technique which involves the use of a very fine needle to inject a solution directly into the veins. The solution causes the blood within the vein to disappear or become less obvious. Sclerotherapy will improve your appearance, but it's unrealistic to believe that every vein will disappear completely after your treatment. Sometimes two or more sessions will be required to obtain optimal results. A treatment plan customized to your needs will be developed by your physician.

Sclerotherapy is performed at both our Medina and Middleburg Heights (Southwest) offices.
